Psilohuasca is truffles with an MAO inhibitor
How do you get the changes ingrained in your life?
Psilohuasca is a combination of two powerful ingredients: psilocybin (the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms”) and the Banisteriopsis caapi plant. This combination creates a unique psychedelic experience that helps people gain deeper insights and is often used for spiritual purposes. In this text, we explain exactly what psilohuasca is, how it works and whether it requires you to indulge.
Warning: MAOIs can affect the effects of other medications, which can be dangerous. If you don’t want an MAOI, opt for a regular truffle ceremony.
What is psilohuasca?
Psilohuasca is a psychedelic drink made by combining psilocybin from“magic mushrooms” with Banisteriopsis caapi, a plant that has been used for centuries in South American spiritual ceremonies, such as ayahuasca rituals.
This combination of substances provides a more intense and longer experience than when psilocybin is used alone. However, combining substances also increases the risk of a bad trip.
Psilocybin is known for its hallucinogenic effects on the mind, while Banisteriopsis caapi is a plant that contains substances that enhance the effects of psilocybin.
The term “psilohuasca” comes from the words psilocybin and ayahuasca, the South American drink often composed of Banisteriopsis caapi and another psychoactive plant. Psilohuasca is thus a mixture of the “magic mushrooms” and Banisteriopsis caapi.
How does psilohuasca work?
Psilohuasca works because the substances in the two ingredients work together to create a powerful experience. Let’s take a look at how both components work.
Psilocybin: the active ingredient in magic mushrooms
Psilocybin is the active ingredient found in Psilocybe truffles and mushrooms, also called “magic mushrooms.” When you consume psilocybin, it is converted into psilocin in your body. Psilocin acts on the serotonin receptors in the brain.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a role in your mood and emotions. Psilocin disrupts this balance, causing visual hallucinations, changes in how you experience time and space, and profound, sometimes spiritual insights.
The experience you have when using psilocybin can vary. Sometimes you feel peaceful and connected to nature and other times the visions can be intense and emotional. For many people, it is a way to dive deep into their subconscious and find answers to life’s questions.
Banisteriopsis caapi: the MAO inhibitors
Banisteriopsis caapi is a plant that has been used in ayahuasca ceremonies in South America for centuries. It contains substances called MAO inhibitors, such as harmine and harmaline.
MAO stands for monoamine oxidase, an enzyme that helps break down certain substances in your body, including psilocybin. MAO inhibitors block this enzyme, so psilocybin is not broken down as quickly.
The MAOIs in Banisteriopsis caapi help ensure that the psilocybin you consume remains active in your brain, resulting in a long and intense experience.
Combination of effects
When you use psilohuasca, you combine the effects of psilocybin with the MAO inhibitors of Banisteriopsis caapi. This causes you to spend longer and deeper into the psychedelic experience. It can lead to visions that are not only visual, but also emotionally and spiritually profound.
Many people experience feelings of connection with nature, the universe or their inner self. The combination of both ingredients can make the experience much stronger than if you were to use psilocybin alone. As mentioned, this can make you more likely to end up in a bad trip.

Does psilohuasca make you vomit?
A common question about psychedelic substances such as psilohuasca is whether it is necessary to surrender to the experience, which is often accompanied by vomiting. This is common with ayahuasca, where some people experience physical reactions such as vomiting.
In many cases, this is seen as a way of “cleansing” – the body releases things you no longer need, such as negative energy or emotional blockages.
With psilohuasca, vomiting is also common. The combination of psilocybin and the MAOIs in Banisteriopsis caapi can cause some people to feel nauseous. This is because the MAOIs make people nauseous and are also very gross to drink.
When using psilohuasca, it is important to prepare for the experience and be open to whatever may come, both physically and mentally.
The idea of “surrendering” can also be figurative. Many people who use psilohuasca open themselves up to the experiences it offers, even if that means letting go of old emotional or mental blocks.
This can be an intense and liberating process. So, while you may not need to physically surrender, you may find yourself “surrendering” to the journey and insights gained during the experience.
